Announcements for Sunday, October 18, 2009

October 18, 2009
Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Holy Apostle Luke the Evangelist

Colossians 4:5-18:  As we read from St.  Paul’s letter to the Colossians, we hear him encourage us to walk in wisdom regarding those outside the Church and to speak to them with grace.  We also hear him commend those who were his fellow workers, including St.  Luke the Evangelist, whom we honor on this day.

Luke 10:16-21: Our Lord reminds His disciples that the joy of discipleship is not in authority over demonic power, but in the citizenship of God’s Kingdom.

Troparion of the Resurrection:  When thou, O immortal Life, didst humble thyself unto death, then didst thou destroy death by the brightness of thy Godhead; and when thou didst raise the bowels of the earth, then all the heavenly powers exclaimed, O Christ, thou art the Giver of life!  Glory to thee, O our God!

Troparion of the Apostle Luke the Evangelist:  O Holy Apostle Luke, intercede with our merciful God to grant our souls forgiveness of sins.

Troparion of the Chains of St. Peter: O Holy Apostle, Peter, thou dost preside over the Apostles by the precious chains which thou didst bear.  We venerate them with faith and beseech thee that by thine intercessions we be granted the great mercy.

Kontakion for Usual Sundays:  O undisputed intercessor of Christians, O mediatrix, who is unrejected by the Creator, turn not away from the voice of our petitions though we be sinners; come to us in time, who cry to thee in faith, for thou art good.  Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who didst ever intercede for those who honor thee.

Sunday Pot Luck!!  The Parish Council has agreed that we will begin having a Pot Luck meal on the first Sunday of each month instead of Coffee Hour.  There will be a sign-up sheet posted on the Bulletin Board in the Fellowship Hall in the weeks prior to the meal, so that we can have an idea of the food that will be brought.  If you can’t bring a dish, sign up for set-up or clean-up.  Participation is open to all (men as well as children!!)  This is a wonderful chance for some fellowship.  Please be sure to mark it on your calendars!!
