Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost
II Corinthians 6:16-7:1: St Paul reminds us that as God has promised to dwell with us, we are to be holy, cleansing ourselves from ungodliness.
Luke 6:31-36: From St Luke’s account of the Sermon on the Mount we hear our Lord teach us to love our enemies, to be unselfish in our giving, and to have mercy upon those who do us wrong rather than condemning them.
Troparion of the Resurrection: O compassionate One, thou didst descend from the heights; thou didst submit to the three-day burial, that thou might deliver us from passion. Thou art our Life and our Resurrection, O Lord, glory to thee.
Troparion of St. Ananias: O Holy Apostle Ananias, intercede with our merciful God to grant our souls forgiveness of sins.
Troparion of St. Romanos: Through thee the divine likeness was securely preserved, O father Romanos; for thou didst carry the cross and followed Christ. By example and precept thou didst teach us to ignore the body because it is perishable, and to attend to the concerns of the undying soul. Therefore, doth thy soul rejoice with the angels.
Troparion of the Chains of St. Peter: O Holy Apostle, Peter, thou dost preside over the Apostles by the precious chains which thou didst bear. We venerate them with faith and beseech thee that by thine intercessions we be granted the great mercy.
Kontakion of the Theotokos: O undisputed intercessor of Christians, O mediatrix, who is unrejected by the Creator, turn not away from the voice of our petitions though we be sinners; come to us in time, who cry to thee in faith, for thou art good. Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who didst ever intercede for those who honor thee.

Please be reminded that the Sacristy/Vestry which is adjacent to and behind the altar in our church is considered by the Orthodox Church to be part of the Sanctuary (Altar area) and should not be entered without the blessing of the priest for a specific purpose. If you need to speak with a member of the clergy while they are in the Sanctuary, please ask them to come to you in the nave.
Please be reminded of the following:
Be very careful with the Blessed Bread when you take it after communion. Because this bread has been blessed, we should take care not to let crumbs fall on the floor. Parents, especially, please help your children to choose a small piece and treat it carefully.
Also, at the end of the liturgy, maintain a prayerful disposition during the veneration of the cross as the prayers of thanksgiving after communion are still underway. Please exchange your greetings with each other in the Fellowship Hall during Coffee Hour.
Continue to pray for Metropolitan Paul (who is also the brother of our Patriarch) and the Syriac Archbishop John of Aleppo who were abducted while on a humanitarian mission in Syria.
Please remember Fr. Joseph and Kh. Joanna Bittle, and their daughter Abigail, in your prayers.

His Grace, Bishop ANTOUN has officially retired and Metropolitan JOSEPH has appointed His Grace, Bishop NICHOLAS to oversee the Diocese of Miami and the Southeast. Father John has invited him to visit us soon and he has expressed a wish to do so. More information on His Grace is to be found in the Metropolitan’s letter which is posted on the Bulletin Board in the Fellowship Hall. Please keep him in your prayers.
Welcome and Many Years! to Lazar Gojgovic, son of new members Srdjan and Yana Goygovic, who was baptized yesterday morning!
Anna Maria Lavric, daughter of Dorin and Carolina Lavric, will be baptized on Saturday morning, October 14th at 10:30 a.m. Please keep her, her godparents and parents in your prayers.
We are establishing a Seminary Fund for Phillip Lasseter. If you would like to make a contribution, please make a note on your check that it is for the Seminary Fund.
Fall Festival: We will hold our annual Fall Festival on Saturday afternoon, October 28th. Anna Kathryn Stewart will once again head up this activity. (As in the past, we will not have Ninth Hour and Great Vespers that day.) More information will be available at a later date.
Beginning Sunday evening, October 1st, Father John will meet with the Teens on a regular basis.. More information on dates and times are still to be determined.

Save the Date: Ladies . . .the 3rd Annual Orthodox Women’s Retreat will take place Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Holy Trinity/St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Jackson. Father Barnabas Powell of Sts. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Cummings, GA will be our speaker. More information and registration forms will be available in early October. Parents of Young Children: Please make sure that your children are supervised if they are in the Nursery during Coffee Hour, just as they are supervised if out on the Playground. The Nursery is being left in a mess on Sunday mornings following Coffee Hour and the clean-up is falling on the same people (i.e. those who teach Sunday School classes in that room). If you leave and there are still children using the room, please make sure that your children pick up the things with which they have been playing.
If you are the last to leave, please make sure that the doors in the Fellowship Hall, the kitchen and the hallway are all locked.
