Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Apostle James, Brother of the Lord
Galatians 1:11-19: Brethren, I would have you know that the Gospel which was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the Church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people; so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. But when He Who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son to me, in order that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were Apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas, and remained with him fifteen days. But I saw none of the other Apostles except James the Lord’s brother.
Luke 8:26-39: At that time, Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. And as He stepped out on land, there met Him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes, and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, “What hast Thou to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech Thee, do not torment me.” For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion”; for many demons had entered him. And they begged Jesus not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged Jesus to let them enter these. So He gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked Jesus to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so He got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with Jesus; but Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return to your home, and declare all that God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city all that Jesus had done for him.
Troparion of the Resurrection: When thou, O immortal Life, didst humble thyself unto death, then didst thou destroy death by the brightness of thy Godhead; and when thou didst raise the bowels of the earth, then all the heavenly powers exclaimed, O Christ, thou art the Giver of life! Glory to thee, O our God!
Troparion of the Apostle James, Brother of the Lord: Since thou art a Disciple of the Lord, thou didst receive the Gospel, O righteous one, and since thou art a Martyr thou art never rejected, and since thou art a brother of God, thou art privileged, and since thou art a High Priest, it is thine to intercede. Wherefore, beseech thou Christ God to save our souls.
Troparion of the Chains of St. Peter: O Holy Apostle, Peter, thou dost preside over the Apostles by the precious chains which thou didst bear. We venerate them with faith and beseech thee that by thine intercessions we be granted the great mercy.
Kontakion of the Theotokos: O undisputed intercessor of Christians, O mediatrix, who is unrejected by the Creator, turn not away from the voice of our petitions though we be sinners; come to us in time, who cry to thee in faith, for thou art good. Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who didst ever intercede for those who honor thee.

Bowling with the Bishop! The Teens will go bowling with Bishop NICHOLAS tomorrow evening (October 24th). Please meet at 5:45 p.m. at Indian Lanes on Northside Drive in Clinton. They do not need to bring money for this activity. The bowling fees and meals off of the menu (there are burgers, chicken nuggets, pizza, etc.) will be taken care of by the church.
Calendar Items:
* The men of the parish meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month.
* The Ladies meet at the church at 10:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month to pray the Akathist to the Mother of God, Nurturer of Children on behalf of our children. However, the ladies will NOT meet for the month of November, due to the wedding on November 12th. (See Calendar Items below.)
* This month the Ladies will meet for lunch on Monday, October 24th instead of the last Tuesday of the month. We will eating lunch in the fellowship hall with His Grace, Bishop NICHOLAS.
* Our monthly Pot Luck Meal will be held on Sunday, October 23rd instead of the usual second Sunday of the month.
* The Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 29th, beginning at 4:00 p.m. There will be no Great Vespers that day.
* Gabriella Alaeetawi and Gavin McIntire will be married at St. Peter on Saturday, November 12th at 10:30 a.m. Please remember them in your prayers.
* The Fast of the Nativity begins on November 15th and runs through December 24th. As is our custom in the parish during this fast, we will celebrate the Advent Paraklesis service on Wednesday evenings instead of Daily Vespers. However, there will be no service on Wednesday evening, November 23rd due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
* Andrew Spiehler will be chrismated and Noah Shockley will be baptized on Saturday, November 19th. Please keep them both in your prayers.
* We will celebrate the Feast of the Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple with Great Vespers with Litia and Artoklasia on Sunday evening, November 20th, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

October is Teen Month in our Archdiocese. In keeping with that, our teens will be reading the Epistle during the Divine Liturgy this month.
Volunteers are needed to help with our Annual Fall Festival next Saturday. Please check the sign-up sheets that are located in the Fellowship Hall. Please also be sure to sign-up if you are planning to attend. Many thanks to Anna Kathryn Stewart for heading up this activity!
Fasting Discipline for October
In October, the traditional fasting discipline (no meat, dairy, eggs, fish, wine or oil) is observed on all Wednesdays and Fridays of the month.

PARENTS, a problem has arisen due to the nursery room being left messy after Coffee Hour. No food of any kind should be taken into that room. Also, it is necessary for a parent to be in the room whenever their children are in there playing. Thank you for your assistance with this.
